Trikini 23 MAY 30, 2004

www.trikini.com

Well this is sort of backward, the rainy seas on starts on June 1st and I am busy for the last week cutting the cabin off the Trikini 23.

Never did like that cabin. Was just too boxy

So basically we are back to the original cuddy cabin from 1978 but located 18″ forward as a result of moving the forward crossarms.

Next up is to extend the cockpit in front of the mast stand and fit the bulkheads to the cuddy.

Hopefully we will have a week of dry weather. Started this on the 24th and the weather thru the first is hot and dry..

As you can tell some work was done last fall. The OR’s were completed the CA’s were mounted and the OR’s rigged and the CA rigging fitted. The wires need to be changed or extended. whoever had the boat in the past, simply chopped the ends off. Several blocks and fittings are missing.

While I wanted to fit a tiller I think I will install the wheel in the mast base tower. This means undoing some work but seems the best way.

Continuing thru June

We had some rain and lots of heat. Humitures of 102 were common, and when the early rainy season preview cam we had 41 mph winds, power outages and 3-4″ rain in a hour or two. so it was a blustery month. June is traditionally the hottest month and transitions between the dry season and the rainy season.

Did some more glass work around the cabin. Fabricated the coaming panels which don’t show and did some glass work around the mast step.

We put in the Chain Plates and the Mast step.

We made up new wires for locating the OR’s , Made up new Bobstays , freed up the frozen turnbuckles where possible.

Moved the mast around and got the shrouds and stays measured and put short tails on the upper and main shrouds. The radio wire, the wires to the masthead light and the light are all bad but since we plan to daysail and are consdering a major rig change later decided just to tape them off and forget for now. The forestay needs to be based on drwaing 10″ longer. We did this be using a 12″ piece of ss. chian between the TB and the stay. The backstay is going to be too long but will not trim till the mast is up for checking.

We are still considering removing the rear cabin and fitting either a backstay bridle with a cut out transom or maybe even a boomkin. Might even fit an arch to support the boom, antenna, stern light etc., This is a lot of eyeball design which is what really personalizes a project like this. What looks right on paper may not feel right on the boat, while you may suddenly say how about and find a perfect fit.

The last Photo is the mast laying on deck, step pinned to hinge waiting to be raised. June 23rd.
