The other day I was looking for a recipie to cook a red cabbage I had bought. We were cooking a Japanese fast food style meal with chicken and fried rice and wokked veggies. I wanted something with an asian flavor to do to the cabbage. A quick internet search turned up this recipie that was a great success as well as quick.
2 teaspoons olive oil or other cooking oil.
1 small onion sliced in thin rings and the rings cut in half to make strings of onion.
2 cloves of garlic minced
1 teaspoon minced ginger
about 1/3 of a regular sized red cabbage (you can use regular cabbage or napa cabbage as well) sliced in long thin pieces.
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
2 teaspoons sesame oil
In a saute pan over medium-high heat, add the oil and heat. Add the onion, garlic and ginger and saute, stiring for 1 minute. Add the cabbage and cook until just starting to wilt, about 2 minutes. Add the soy sauce and rice vinegar and stir well and cook jmust until cabbage is wilted, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and drizzle with the sesame oil.
I followed the directions and cooked it till it started to wilt but was still slightly crunchy.. Everyone loved it. Total prep and cook time less than 10 minutes.
