Well as I talked about sunday I have started to have a problem with my TP-32 tillerpilot. It is acting erratically in changing course and on one occasion it changed course by itself by 30 to 40 degrees.
I just finished speaking with Simrad tech support and so far I am very impressed. It took about 3 minutes total to go from dialing their 800 number to talking to a tech support person. About 4 minutes talking with him describing the problem and he passed me off to a customer service rep to get a RA# to send the pilot in and get it looked at.
It’s really refreshing to actually get to talk to people quickly and profesionally rather than sit on a telephone queue for 20 to 30 minutes. Also their attitude was good. It was a lets get this fixed one. I spend many hours a month dealing with IT companies tech support for computer products and software and unfortuanatly seem to end up with the oposite of this with most of them. More of a what did you do wrong and it isn’t our fault and you can’t do that attitude from them.
How long did you have the TP32. I have an Ericson 27 sailboat and am seriously considering get one. Besides this problem were you satisfied with the performance of this unit.
Thanks Chris
I had been using it for about 4 months with no problem and have liked the unit very much.. We will see over the course of the year when I get it back how it continues to do. I take the boat out two to three times a week from march to october/november so it will get a fair workout. I will also be doing at least one 24 hour (100 mile) sail with it that should give it a fair test.
