Steve called me and said he was taking a class out kayaking Sunday and did I want to go. I don’t think I have been kayaking in maybe years, and not much in the year and a half prior to that. I have spent all my time and energy sailing and working on my boats for the last few years. We went out on the Waccamaw River at Peachtree Landing.
I had a great time. I think I am going to find a roof rack for the new honda civic so that I can take a kayak on it when I want to go.
Anyway I took the old canon digital camera with me and took a bunch of pictures. Here are a few.. It was a beautiful day for being on the river.
Just after we got out on the Waccamaw river we saw this huge floating mass of trees and vegetation.
A small floating bunch of water hyacinth
Some of steve’s students. Amazingly enough for as new as most of them are to kayaking I would have thought that they had been doing it for years. lol not sure if that is a complement to what natural skill they had or how good a teacher steve is 🙂
One of the things to always look out for is wasp nests. These are hanging about shoulder to head high. Just perfect for a paddle to hit if your not paying attention.
Steve’s collection of water hyacinth for his turtles at home to munch on.
Its hard to see but there is a 8+ ft alligator in the center of the river in this picture. I Couldn’t get any closer than this before he hid though. If you click on the image and then go to the options to see the full size image you can make him out a little better.

Pretty shot of students paddling out into mirror smooth water back off the main channel

Stare off between Steve and Gerr
wouldn’t mind doing that sometime…after all, it’s on the water
Hey Al 🙂
It’s a lot of fun.. been a long time since I had gone out. Actually almost since I started sailing. I will be going out more now that Sea Puppy is out of the water. So holler at me and I will see about taking you out kayaking 🙂
